Meet Rachel, a 22 year old music lover from Columbus, Ohio.
“I am a recent graduate with a BA in Public Relations and Marketing Communications with a double minor in Graphic Design and Leadership Communications on the hunt for the perfect job. When I am not job searching or working at my current part-time job, you can catch me at Orange Theory Fitness, in the Dunkin’ Donuts drive through, a concert, or traveling around the country. If I have down time, I love laying in bed listening to music, writing, watching YouTube, or watching Supernatural on Netflix for the 7th time.
What is the soundtrack to your life?
Life is a Highway by Rascal Flatts. I grew up listening to Rascal Flatts so when I first heard this song, the wanderluster in me started emerging. Life is a literal highway with twist, turns, potholes, roadblocks, detours, and so much more. Life would be too easy if we didn’t have any challenges in it. I love this song even more now that I’m older just because of all the road trips I take. Make sure you’ve got a good playlist blaring through the speakers and that your headlights work, because life’s a highway and you won’t get through it without them!
What is the most annoying song in the world?
The most annoying (and overplayed) song in the world is Thank U, Next by Ariana Grande. It’s a great anthem and I love her, but after hearing it on the radio constantly I can’t listen to it normally.
What’s more important to you? Music; or Lyrics? Why?
Lyrics, for me, are the most important to me in music. Every song or album that resonates with me is because of the story that the lyrics so perfectly tell. Lyrics allow fans to have a deeper understanding of what an artist is feeling or going through and that’s such a treasure. Having a song with impacting lyrics lets me know that I’m not alone in any situation such as breakups or low self-esteem. The music/beat with the lyrics is just the icing on the cake.
I have so many artists that have been influential in my life with their songs/albums having a large impact on me. With my lineup including Maren Morris, Halsey, and John Mayer, the number one spot belongs to Jake Miller. Jake writes and produces all of his songs in the comfort of his bedroom and is one of the coolest things about him as an artist. His sound is so unique and different from other artists and the lyrics he writes never fail to hit you in some way or bring back an old memory. I have met Jake on multiple occasions and can say that he is the most selfless person on this planet. Jake cares about his family, friends, and fans so much because of how far he’s gotten with their support. I’m so grateful that I’ve been with him from the start and I’ll be here until the end.
If you had the chance to interview an artist, who would it be? (Dead or alive)
If I ever had the chance, I would die to be able to interview Shawn Mendes. He is such a talented singer/songwriter and it would be interesting to get the chance to talk to him about his songs and other random topics!
My last concert was on Jake Miller’s ‘Wait for You’ tour in Los Angeles, CA! It was the last show and he actually ended up spraining his ankle after slipping on an untapped setlist 6 songs into his set. He didn’t let us down and still went out with a bang!
