Meet Miles, the founder of Soundway Records which was founded in 2002 in the UK
“We have a few different playlists but two main ones. The first is simply a complete collection of every release we've put out on the label over the years and the other is a playlist that contains a mixture of some of our own material but mostly tracks from other labels and artists that we respect, support and like.”
What is Soundways purpose?
Its two fold really when you boil it down. On the one hand we release new music from all over the world and support artists, producers and bands that deserve attention outside of the mainstream. Secondly we license and re-issue older tracks from the past that have become obscure or unknown for one reason or another. This involves trying to make them appeal to either a younger audience or an audience that might have missed them first time around due to their geographical origin or because they were originally released in small numbers on labels that have since gone out of business.
How do these playlists promote your brand?
The full discography literally just puts all of our repertoire and catalogue in a place that's easily accessible to people all over the world. The playlist where we select other peoples music and mix it with our own shows the breadth of our tastes and hopefully turns people onto music by like-minded artists and bands that sometimes might be on smaller labels or even music that's self released. It also helps people see the sort of stuff we might consider signing to the label and so acts as a stepping stone for musicians and producers to get in touch.
