Meet Maya Elias, a 25 year old Spotify playlist curator from New York.
Name one of your favorite albums of all time?
My Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West, Ctrl by SZA, or X&Y by Coldplay
What is the best concert you’ve ever been to and why?
SZA's Ctrl tour. Ctrl was such an impactful album for me; I was so moved by SZA's ability to unapologetically share deeply intimate feelings - feelings that I knew and shared - through a musical story. I went to her concert by myself (when friends asked if they could come I said, "no") and everything from her voice to the way she interacted with the crowd was goosebump-inducing. I cried...it was AMAZING!
If you were a singer, what current living artist would you like to collaborate with?
Coldplay because they're dynamic geniuses. J. Cole because he's super talented and I love his sampling - it's very smart and embeds the song with another layer of meaning - and he's just incredibly talented. Santana because that man can PLAY.
What artist, dead or alive, who would you interview and why?
Clyde Stubblefield (James Brown's drummer) because he was a self-taught genius whose drum patterns and rhythms essentially serve/served as the basis for a lot of funk music. Can you imagine just picking up an instrument and becoming one of the foundational attributes to an entire genre?
What is the last song you listened to?
Pawn It All - Alicia Keys, Golden Rule (Do the Oobopopop) by Valarie
