Soul. Jazz. Funk. BREAKS.

Soul. Jazz. Funk. BREAKS.

Meet Alex, a 42-year-old from Southern California.
“I made this playlist because I grew up listening to my parents' funk/r&b, and classic hip-hop - which I considered "mine," so whenever I heard a sample I recognized, I would trace it back the best I could (pre-internet). This led me down a rabbit hole and I finally decided to put all my favorites in one playlist.”

Name your top 3 favorite artists and why?

Fishbone, because I grew up listening to funk/r&b, but when I moved to a new school in the 8th grade, all of my new friends were listening to rock/hair metal. Fishbone was the band that merged those worlds together for me. Faith No More, because they're so much more progressive and prolific than "Epic" would have you believe. They were my gateway to a lot of progressive and experimental music. Lastly, Radiohead, because they consistently challenge me to listen on a different level. As someone who thinks he knows a lot about music, I'm always humbled by the breadth and depth of theirs.

What music did you grow up listening to as a young kid?

I dabble - singing, bass.

What is the best concert that you have ever been to?
