Meet Sondre Lerche, 36 years old from New York City.
I’m an LA-based Norwegian songwriter, singer, composer. I moved here from New York last fall. Working on a new album, as well as some music for film and other writing projects I enjoy getting lost in.
What is the soundtrack to your life?
Since 2016 it's been my playlist Sondre's Infinite Playlist.
What is the most annoying song in the world?
Have You Ever Seen The Rain by Credence Clearwater Revival.
What’s more important to you? Music; or Lyrics? Why?
Starting out I think chord-progressions were most important to me. Then I started getting better at melodies to justify these beautiful chords, and eventually, I grew better at finding the words to motivate the songs more fully. Nowadays, all is of equal importance, and an opportunity for something special.
That became impossible to say a long time ago. When I was a kid my favorite group was A-ha. I still love them. The past few weeks I've been deep into Haruomi Hosono's score for the film Shoplifting, so currently, that is my favorite artist.
If you had the chance to interview an artist, who would it be? (Dead or alive):
I've had the pleasure of talking to many artists I admire, and it's usually very chill. But talking to Cole Porter or Lorenz Hart would be of great interest to me.
William Basinski at the Ambient Church in Pasadena the other week. Lovely.
