Meet Silent Mike, a Youtuber, podcaster, coach, and music lover from California.
“First playlist I ever made was simply to fuel my workouts. Training for 14+ hours a week takes a ton of focus and music really helps get in the zone. Eventually, people started asking what I listen to so I kept updating the playlist and making others to share with my community.”
What is the soundtrack to your life?
Such a tough question. Me and my life have so many layers there's a soundtrack to different chapters and also different pages of each day. It'd be nearly impossible to choose one.
You are clearly someone who does a lot (podcaster, YouTuber, coach, etc.) How does music play into the dynamic between all of these roles?
From a young age, music has influenced everything I do. Growing up playing multiple instruments and falling in love with basketball being highly influenced by hip-hop culture, music is everything to me. I try to build a routine to perform my best for everything I do, podcast, youtube, workflow, etc.- each routine cornerstone is music. I have speakers so I have music when I shower, multiple pair of headphones for different situations and of course a sound bar in my living room. Sometimes music is leading the way or setting up my mood and thoughts. Other times when I'm stressed or too relaxed I choose certain music to force myself into a mood.
What’s more important to you? Music; or lyrics? Why?
Depends on the genre and my mood. In hip/hop I love lyrical rappers. In something like reggae, the lyrics can often be more simple but get a great message across with the vibe of the song. Oldies I love because so much of the music is about love and positivity. I really love afro-beats in which I find the same, it always seems to bring a positive message even when dealing with topics that may be more serious.
Way too many to choose from but here's an idea of some- Bill Withers, Temptations, Michael Jackson, Prince, Bob Marley, Eminem, Lil' Wayne, Kanye West, Jay-Z, J.cole, Khalid, Maleek Berry... I can go on forever.
If you had the chance to interview any artist, who would it be? (dead or alive)
Also a super tough question but if I had to choose one probably Prince.
Last concert you went to?
