Meet Cynthia, a 20-year-old Spotify playlist curator from Norwalk, Connecticut.
“I made this playlist when the song “Sign of the Times” first came out. It is my favorite song in the entire world. I wanted to have songs that made me feel like that one, all together. All of the songs in this playlist have had a huge influence over my life at some point. They all mean a lot to me. As the past two years have gone by I have added songs and it’s nice to be able to go back and sort of relive some experiences.”
If you had the chance to interview an artist, who would it be?
If I had the chance to interview an artist it would be Harry Styles, who inspired this playlist in the first place. His songs mean the world to me and it would be interesting to learn more about him and how the songs came to be.
Do you have a hidden talent?
I don’t really know. I’d probably say painting.
Do you play any instruments? If no, which instrument do you wish you could play?
I do not play any instruments. I wish I could play the piano. I think it is such a beautiful instrument. I have always wanted to learn ever since I was younger but I haven’t had the opportunity.
Do you have a favorite quote?
“Treat people with kindness” - Harry Styles
I think it’s a great message to live by. Nowadays I think people forget that we should always be kind to one another, especially online. People hide behind a screen and think it’s okay to say things that hurt others. We forget basic decency and respect for other human beings.
What's more important to you: music or lyrics? Why? *
This is a really hard question because they go hand in hand. I think to me the lyrics are more important. It’s is what I relate to, how I feel connected to the song. I can appreciate the music but what keeps me interested are the lyrics. I think I appreciate a song mostly through the lyrics. Lyrics have changed the way I see things or changed my opinions about things. I’ve felt other experiences that I have not lived, through lyrics. They have helped me understand that people go through different things and travel different paths, yet we can all feel connected through the lyrics of a song. I really appreciate lyrics because artists give us a piece of themselves through their lyrics. They share a part of themselves with us I feel should always be appreciated.
