Meet Mees, 23 years old from the Netherlands
“I initially made this playlist mostly for my own listening purposes. But not long after its creation, I decided to have the playlist tie-in with my "riddim dubstep" subreddit community I moderate on reddit.com/r/riddim. Which is where the playlists' audience first started taking hold & started growing.”

What is the soundtrack to your life?

That would definitely be The Bloodhound Gang - Take The Long Way Home. It's easy-going vibe and the stoic-like lyrics are the way I approach life!

Favorite artist?

If I would have to name one, it would be the metal-band Avenged Sevenfold.

If you had the chance to interview an artist, who would it be? (Dead or alive)

Difficult question, possibly New York rapper Aesop Rock, his lyrics are so insane, would love a personal look inside his head! Other than that maybe Skream or Skrillex, about the early days of dubstep, or the late Jimmy Sullivan, ex-drummer of Avenged Sevenfold.

What is the best concert you have ever been to?

Must be either KoRn in Amsterdam, 2012. Or Rammstein in Belgium, 2016.

Do you have a favorite quote?

“My philosophy is: It’s none of my business what people say of me and think of me. I am what I am and I do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. And it makes life so much easier.”

― Anthony Hopkins

Do you play any instruments? If not, any you would love to learn?

Besides music production & DJing, I also play a bit of piano & ukulele.

What is the most annoying song in the world?

There is not one. Every piece of music can be enjoyed and appreciated in different ways. If there is annoying music to me, it would be either my own, or just something dissonant, and unpleasant for humans to listen to (think: noise). But even then it'd have to absolutely crazy since I can appreciate all kinds of "strange" music from deathstep to grindcore.

What’s more important to you? Music; or Lyrics? Why?

Equally important! In my opinion, it definitely depends on what you're looking for in a song. If you're listening to a song while riding your bike through the rain to try and forget that girl & her smile, you might find the lyrics to be the most important at the time. If sitting at home producing your own banging drum & bass tune, you're looking for uplifting music to be danced to on a dancefloor. But even then, lyrics might add a lot to that. In short: depends on the context.
