Meet Ricki Castanieto, a 19-year-old from Kailua Kona, Hawaii.
“I make playlists for different genres and moods. This playlist was my go to in high school, there were so many songs about feeling stuck and singled out and I think that most kids feel like that at one point in their life and the music on this playlist helped me through some rough times”
What is the best concert you have ever been to?
Panic! At The Disco
Do you play any instruments? If not, which instrument do you wish you could play?
I don't play any instruments but I'd like to learn how to play the bass. It seems like a cool skill to have and it would help me understand and groove with melodies.
Name one of your favorite albums of all time?
Future Hearts by All Time Low, for sure. It's sonically dynamic, which I love, for example Dancing With A Wolf has a totally different vibe compared to Missing You. There's also a bunch of different themes explored that I'm able to connect with. I love the fact that Mark Hoppus and Joel Madden are featured on a couple tracks.
Name your top 3 favorite artists and why?
All Time Low, I've always been drawn to the punk rock genre and for the longest time
All Time Low has been in the hub of it all. They are so creative and I've loved their progression as a band. They're amazing artists. My second favorite is Simple Plan and I've been listening to them since I was a kid. When I was young, cartoons were a big part of my everyday life and my favorite was What's new Scooby Doo? and Simple Plan actually sang the intro and was featured in an episode, and I've been listening to them ever since. They really helped me survive high school. And my third favorite band is Panic! At The Disco, the band was a must have in my emo music arsenal and I've been a follower since my teen years. I always like the obscene lyrics and metaphors, I sang their songs without caring the meaning behind them because I just liked they're sound so much.
What is your favorite quote?
"Tu es Toujours là dans mes pensées." This is actually a lyric from a song, Simple Plan is a Canadian band so they often have French versions of their own songs. This quote is from a song called Jet Lag, and it means "you're always there in my thoughts." I use this phrase when referring to friends from school I don't see often or when I think about my dad since he lives a ways away and I don't get to see him a lot.
