Meet Josh Nunez, a 22-year-old from Louisiana.
“I made the playlist my freshman year of college because we needed fun party music to play at our fraternity parties.”
What music did you grow up listening to as a young kid?
The first music I remember being introduced to as a child was 70’s Motown. My dad is a fan of that era of music, and I learned to love all the greats that came out of the industry during that time. I also loved country music. My mom was a big fan of the country for its lyrics and its storytelling. Eventually, I began listing to hip hop music around the age of 13. Since then, I’ve learned to love so many different genres of music.
What artist, dead or alive, who would you interview and why?
I would love to meet and interview Jon Bellion. I believe he is one of the greatest musicians of our time. His name may not be as relevant as some, but his musicianship speaks for itself.
Do you play any instruments? If no, which instrument do you wish you could play?
Yes, I taught myself the guitar and play almost every day. I also like to experiment on the piano. Learning to play by ear is a challenge by has been so rewarding. I’ve recently begun learning more music theory to garner a better understanding of what I’m playing. I’ve enjoyed the whole process of learning and playing music.
Do you have a life slogan?
Seek Discomfort. It’s a constant reminder to push yourself out of your comfort zone to experience growth. It all helps with becoming a better person.
If you were a singer, what current living artist would you like to collaborate with?
This is a tough one because my interests change almost weekly. I’ll go through different phases of genres and artists that I get hooked on. Right now, I would have to say Catfish and the Bottlemen. I’m so glad they’re putting out new music again. I would love to collaborate with them and fulfill my childhood dream of becoming a rockstar. That’s the coolest thing ever, right?
