Meet Alexander, a 28 year old Spotify playlist curator from Germany.
“After listening to more and more female rappers, I found that they go way deeper than male rappers. Obviously in both sub-genres there are the usual party, money, drugs tracks. But still female rappers tend to write about more authentic stories. In their work they focus on depicting life, experiences they made and ethic world views they stand for. As a queer person from a problematic area, they are much more relatable to me than male rappers with their "fuck bitches, get money" attitude. The playlist started as a private collection of tracks that I enjoyed, either in regards to their beats and production or their authentic lyrics.”
Who is you favorite artist?
Currently I really enjoy German rapper Juju. She has an intersectional feminist stance, but also is just a relatable young woman making it big in the city.
Best concert you've ever been to?
My music taste is pretty eclectic and as a teenager I enjoyed a lot of Japanese rock and metal. I really loved An Cafe's "Nyappy in the world" Tour.
Do you play any instruments? If not is there one you would like to learn?
Making my own art, I prefer visual media. Sometimes it goes along with digital sounds, but I never did or had the intention to make actual music. I leave that to the more talented people.
What artist (dead or alive) had the biggest impact on your life?
In my teenage years bands like My Chemical Romance and Versailles Philharmonic Quintet brought me through the troubles of growing up. Later on I started looking into more mainstream genres and was surprised my the potential depth some artists bring to Pop and R'n'B. Lady Gaga is a huge inspiration to me. She has a way of taking tragic, yet relatable stories and turning them into a celebration of growth. Also Aaliyah will forever be in my heart and my playlists.
