Meet Luke McManus, 23, a Spotify playlist curator from Ottawa, ON, Canada -
I’m a recent business and design university grad, with particular interest in digital media. I’ve been making playlists for years, and I’m excited to share my namesake “Luke’s 50” with you here. Find me online at lukemcmanus.com!
In the wise words of Confucius, “music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without.”
When & why did you make your playlist?
I made my playlist in 2018 and updated it recently. I made this playlist to organize a collection of my most upbeat, funky, and fun tunes.
Perfect situation(s) for jamming your playlist include:
Stuck in traffic, stressed at work, partying with friends, going to the beach, and whenever you just need a mood boost.
What kind of music did you grow up listening to?
I grew up listening to a mix of pop music, that I could get on my iPod/radio, and my mother’s 80s pop/rock/disco tracks.
What was the best concert you’ve ever attended?
Monster Ball Tour
Ottawa (Scotiabank Place)
Evening of November 29, 2009
This was the first concert I ever went to, after being surprised with tickets from my family. I went to the concert with one of my best middle school friends, Grace Hawes.
This concert was significant to me in many ways. Firstly, it showed me how fun concerts are (which led to many more in following years). I was also starting to question my sexuality at this young age; seeing representation of the gay community through Gaga’s music helped me be at peace with my own identity.
But most of all, it was just an epic evening filled with pyrotechnics, great music, unbelievable theatrics, and 20,000 adoring fans.
Last concert you attended?
The Weeknd, Ottawa 2018. What a night!

4. Lady Gaga
