Meet Niek, 20 years old from The Netherlands.
“I'm a huge car guy. I originally made the playlist to collect music from car related movies and Youtube cinematic edits. That's why the playlist is called what it's called. However, overtime I started to add my personal music that isn't necessarily from these car video's into it but still fits the theme. I think it's about 95% personal taste in there right now. There's also some music in my native language in there. I like to think that people from other countries actually listen to it or maybe even find it interesting. you might not expect this because there's so many world famous dutch edm/techno artists. but rap is actually the most streamed genre. the top 10 most streamed artists was dominated by rappers. only Ed Sheeran was able to sneak in at number 9. He was also one of only two English speaking artists in there. the other one being drake at number 6. the rest were all dutch rappers.”
What is the soundtrack to your life?
"Give it all" by Rise Against. the genre doesn't match my playlist at all, but I listen to all kinds of music. Anyways, back when I was a kid I had a PS2 with Need for Speed Underground 2. Every time you started a race, a random song would be picked, and for some reason, every time "give it all" came on I was on the top of my game. I also think the phrase "give it all" fits my character. If I do something, I have to give it my everything otherwise I won't feel satisfied.
What’s more important to you? Music; or Lyrics? Why?
Definitely music/beat. I can listen to songs with bad lyrics and a good beat, (just look at the amount of comethazine songs in my playlist.) but I can't stand a weak beat.
Favorite artist? Top 5?
This question is almost unanswerable, but if I limit myself to my playlist. it'll be: Playboi carti, Comethazine, idontknowjeffery, Brunzyn, iamjakehill. I'd like to elaborate on the last two. you probably won't recognize the name brunzyn. brunzyn is a dutch underground rapper that kind of started a new kind of sound in the dutch scene. I'm the most proud of iamjakehill tho, I've been following him since 2016 with only a few thousand youtube subscribers. and he's now got 1.3million Spotify listeners every month. to see someone grow that much is really inspiring.
If you had the chance to interview an artist, who would it be? (Dead or alive) and why?
I guess I'd interview Jake? I'd prefer more of a "hanging out" setting though.
I've actually never been to a concert. I have something called sensory integration disorder. Which causes me to dislike certain external stimuli ALOT. Like sounds that are way too loud, like jackhammers, ambulances, and I think it'll be the same for a concert. However i've got free tickets to go to a xibit concert ,so i'll probably go check it out. I have nothing to lose with free tickets after all.
