Meet Piper Madison, 17 years old from Louisville, Kentucky.
“I am constantly finding new artists and songs that inspire me, not just as a songwriter but also in life. They inspire me to dance, to breathe, to cry, to live in the moment... I wanted to share that with others.”
What is the soundtrack to your life?
The soundtrack to my life is probably this playlist, which I’m always updating and is always being inspired by other soundtracks.
What’s more important to you? Music; or Lyrics? Why?
It depends... When I don’t quite know what I’m trying to say, I go to music, because music speaks a feeling. If the music is passionate, it can stand alone. But when the lyrics do fall out of me, I feel like they could stand alone, too. Music and lyrics also overlap: words can house just as much emotion, and music without words can say just as much. The reason I love writing songs is because I get to use both of them.
I HAVE SO MANY. A few of my favorites are Paramore, Grace Potter (with and without The Nocturnals), Sia, Prince, Cage The Elephant, Phoebe Bridgers, Queen... (Don’t stop me now!).
If you had the chance to interview an artist, who would it be? (Dead or alive)
There are so many artists I’d like to just talk to because their music resonates with me so much. I’d love to interview Finneas O’Connell. He’s an songwriter, musician, producer, and has a great ear for music. I’d just love to talk to him about his approach to making music.
My last concert was at South By Southwest in Austin, Texas. I sang at the Dirty Dog Bar, and my set was mostly originals from my upcoming debut album (which I just finished recording in the studio!). Performing at SXSW was like a dream I just wanted to keep dreaming. It was an amazing experience. My next performance is June 8th at the “Glassel Bark” in Glassel Park in Los Angeles. Follow me @pipermadison for more details and other upcoming concert dates and releases.
