Hiking Songs of The Great Outdoors | a WildStray.com playlist

Meet Mikkel, a 23 year old Hiker and Spotify Playlist Curator from Roskilde, Denmark.
“I made this playlist to create a collection of Songs that embodies my love and interest for the simple life under the stars.”

Name one of your favorite albums of all time?

My favorite album of all time would be ‘True’ by Avicii from 2013. It’s been the soundtrack of my life, through good times and harder times. It’s the definitely the album I’ve listened to the most times and I never seem to get too tired of replaying it over and over. It always gives me the energy and a motivation in what ever I do. I especially like to listen to it while I’m running or hiking, when I need to really kick it off.

What is your favorite quote?

It is a quote by author Jack Keraouc, and goes like this: “Because in the end, you won’t remember the time spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain” When I debated on whether to go on a 5-month adventure to thru-hike the Pacific Crest Trail or go straight through to my Master degree, this quote inspired me to take a bold decision and choose to follow my dream of hiking 2650 miles across the Western United States.

Do you play any instruments? If no, which instrument do you wish you could play?

Sadly, I don’t, but I’ve always loved to listen to music, making playlist for every occasion and playing around in FL Studio. If I had to learn an instrument, it would be playing the piano because I think it is such an incredibly powerful instrument. It can be beautiful and delicate while also being intense and dramatic. Also, it is the primary instrument of my favorite artists, Avicii, Kygo and, to an extend, ODESZA.

What is the best concert you’ve ever been to?

It’s a very close call between Kygo at Roskilde Festival in 2015 and ODESZA at Roskilde Festival in 2016. Being a major fan of both artists, I was ecstatic to get the chance to experience them live. In the end, I think ODESZA is probably the best experience. And there’s a story to it. Most of my friends knew about Kygo and wanted to go to the concert, so we did. It was a great party, everybody was happy and felt like dancing. I had a grin on my face the whole time and that concert alone made my festival. In 2016, when ODESZA played, they shared schedule with Wiz Khalid and Red Hot Chili Peppers. All concerts started within the same time frame on 45 minutes. Few to none of my friends knew about ODESZA, and their dilemma was between RHCP and Wiz, but I was dead set on seeing ODESZA, even though I was going alone. And so I did. Apparently, like many others, I found out. Because I made friends quick. Many others went solo to the concert, because ODESZA at the time was not as big in Denmark as they are now. It was my first concert I went to solo and it was a very unique experience to enjoy the show with strangers I just met, but shared the same love for ODESZA’s incredible sound. When they played their remix of Hayden James’ ‘Something About You’ and made the crowd turn off their mobile phones and ignite their lighters, it was such a beuatiful moment, that I will never ever forget.
