Headphone Tester/Audiophile Reference

Meet Tom Pietryka, a 24-year-old from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
“I originally made this playlist for myself. I'm a bit of an audiophile and I wanted to make a list of songs to test headphones. I try to include a variety of genres and eras, and hopefully it will contain at least one artist that you have heard live. But ultimately I still treat it as a list for myself with songs that I would use to test headphones with. It’s actually really cool to see that a lot of other people seem to dig it. In addition to testing headphones, I think it also works well as a showcase of how good music can sound when it's very well made.”

Name your top 3 favorite artists and why?

1. Tom Petty for writing so many catchy and relatable songs, and so many more deep and beautiful ones. 2. The Living Street, since they are not just dear friends of mine but hugely talented musicians. 3. Tough, but I'd say Lord Huron for their unique and coherent sound.

What artist, dead or alive, who would you interview and why?

I would interview George Harrison. He was not only one of the greatest guitarists and songwriters in history, but also a truly fantastic human being. He was a Beatle, he was close friends with Dylan and Clapton, and he funded Monty Python. Now that's a cool life.

What music did you grow up listening to as a young kid?

Mostly stuff from my dad (Santana, U2, classic rock) and my mom (k.d. lang, Norah Jones, classical music). Definitely not the typical pop music.

Name one of your favorite albums of all time?

Wildflowers by Tom Petty to me is pretty much a perfect album. Some of the songs are just incredibly beautiful like the title track and my personal favorite, "Crawling Back to You"

Do you play any instruments? If no, which instrument do you wish you could play?

I play a little bit of guitar, but so little that it's also the instrument I wish I could play.
