Meet Elise, a music lover from Michigan.
"I am a college student at Duke University studying engineering (not sure what type yet- still trying to get a feel for what I like doing and what I'm good at). I love outdoor activities/adventures, cooking, and thrift shopping. Making Spotify playlists has helped me get through all the trials and tribulations of growing up— I've changed so much throughout the past 5 years of my life and I like to let the music I listen to reflect my current struggles, goals, lessons learned, and feelings...all the while guiding me to where I’ll be going next. It’s also a bit of a creative outlet for me, since I’m not actually artistically talented myself, but I still want to do something that’s not just clear-cut like the work I do at school."
What is the soundtrack to your life?
Some of the people I have on repeat are:
Two Door Cinema Club
Rex Orange County
What is the most annoying song in the world?
Counting stars by one republic
What’s more important to you? Music; or Lyrics? Why?
Music 100%. Most times, when I listen to a song for the first time, I have no idea what it’s even about. It takes me probably about a dozen times hearing a song for me to even remember the song name/ artist, let alone the lyrics. It’s not like I consciously ignore the lyrics or anything, but I just end up being drawn into a song because of the way the music makes me feel (I typically like uplifting melodies), not the actual words being sung. Anyway, it always ends up being embarrassing when I shout “I LOVE THIS SONG” to my friends before I end up only being able to sing 30% of the lyrics (I just sing the guitar riffs throughout the rest of the song).
Absolute favorite is Rex
If you had the chance to interview an artist, who would it be? (Dead or alive)
I’d love to interview the Beatles. I think they’ve influenced so many musical artists and their music has clearly withstood the test of time. I’m most interested to know their thoughts on music today!
My first, last, and ONLY concerts I’ve been to is at Detriot’s MoPop music festival--I think the last people I actually watched preform there was Brockhampton
