EDM Underdogs

Meet OMZ, a 34 year old topline vocalist for dance-pop and EDM producers & Spotify playlist curator from Los Angeles, California.
"Be kind, in all ways, always."

What initially inspired you to make your playlist and when did you first make it?

I'm a dance-pop/ EDM vocalist, but I'm also a fan of the genre, and I was finding it incredibly hard to find really good dance-pop/ EDM songs aside from the super played out mainstream stuff that currently lives on the billboard charts and pop radio... So I took it upon myself to start seeking out brilliant independent artists that are making the music I love. (Then I added some of the songs that I've released, that I'm most proud of into the mix as well).

Describe your playlist. Perfect setting(s) for vibing out to it include:

I actually listen to the playlist myself, and for me, I love listening to it while I'm doing chores or boring mundane tasks. This playlist is all about singing along and dancing while you work :) but I can easily see this being listened to strutting down the street, driving in the car, or with a group of friends having some beverages. The EDM Underdogs Playlist is here to uplift and inspire!

What kind of music/artists did you grow up listening to?

I started getting into music seriously during the 90s which was the golden era of hip hop as well as the historic rise of Grunge and Alternative Rock. I loved it all, Tupac, Nas, Wu-Tang, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Green Day, Silverchair, The Red Hot Chill Peppers, Blind Melon, Oasis (and don't tell anyone, but... The Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, Britney Spears, and N Sync also had a special place in my pop-loving heart)

What was the best concert you've ever attended and why?

I was 13 and it was an outdoor music festival called Lollapalooza. Many of the best bands of the 90s were there. It was epic. (Honourable mentions to Incubus, Coldplay, The Foo Fighters, and Marilyn Manson... all amazingly memorable shows!)

What was the last concert you attended?

It was one of Leonard Cohen's last shows ever... It was 4 hours long and I wasn't bored for even a moment, a truly magnetic performance.
Who are your all-time favorite artists and why?
I'm a singer, so I've got to give props to the ones that have inspired me to be what I am today. David Gray, Chris Martin, Ben Harper, and Ray Lamontagne (and most recently, Sia. She blows my friggin' mind).
Name a song you are currently listening to on repeat:
It's a toss up between (Love Like by Dizzy Phase) and (So Good by Bodin) both on The EDM Underdogs Playlist.
Who's your favorite new artist(s) that you'd encourage other people to check out?
I just stumbled upon an amazingly talented dance-alt-pop artist by the name of Happy Sometimes. I'm calling it now... she's about to be a star! I've got two of her tunes on The EDM Underdogs Playlist. Check out her latest single titled "Pooh bear".
