Meet Asia, a 25-year-old Spotify playlist curator from Atlanta, Georgia.
“I made this playlist back in 2012 when I was in college. I would take study breaks (aka procrastinate) by making playlists for different genres and this one emerged from alternative R&B and hip hop influence. I honestly have no idea how it got so many followers, but it makes me happy to know I made something people enjoy.”
If you had the chance to interview an artist, who would it be?
I would love to interview Chance The Rapper. Besides his incredible success as an independent artist, he is an amazing philanthropist. He gives back to his city by helping the homeless, raises money and donates for better quality education, organizes open mic nights for young artists, the list goes on and on. He's just overall a really good human being.
Do you have a hidden talent?
I shamelessly know all the words to Baby Got Back. I have yet to showcase it in karaoke. Don't tell my friends.
Do you play any instruments? If no, which instrument do you wish you could play?
Yes, I can play guitar and once upon a time the trombone.
Do you have a favorite quote?
"... I am hopeful that one day I will discover my own humanity. Until then, I will continue learning, changing, growing, and trying to become more than what I am." - Data, my favorite character of Star Trek TNG, an android who wants to be human, unaware that to try and be better is the most human thing of all.
What's more important to you: music or lyrics? Why?
Music. Instrumental music has a very powerful effect on me and can give me goosebumps without any words. I'm also very fond of music in other languages, I have no idea what the songs are saying but it never stops me from falling in love with them.
