Meet Ian McAlister, 24 years old from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin
“I made the "Biggest Hits of All Time" playlist for the same reason I make all my playlists: I love music, and enjoy enhancing the mood of friends & family by casually DJ-ing events I attend with them. In a similar fashion, that is why I play the drums with Nick Anderson and the Skinny Lovers”
What is the soundtrack to your life?
Not really sure about this one, lots of things about music can move me - an energetic beat, a soothing vibe, a good story. If we're talking album: "Ever After" By Marianas Trench
What’s more important to you? Music; or Lyrics? Why?
Generally, I would have to say the music. That's not to say I don't appreciate good lyrics. Jon Bellion, a recent favorite of mine is quite the lyricist. But because lyrics take another degree or level of active listening than sound itself, perceptually I feel like music has an advantage when it come to making the listener feel something (can you tell I studied psychology). That being said, I feel like since the majority of pop songs lack thoughtful lyrics, when they are present - in tandem with powerful sounds it can take things to a whole new level.
Right now? Jon Bellion, But also Lauv, Jeremy Zucker, Ajr, Matt Maeson
If you had the chance to interview an artist, who would it be? (Dead or alive)
I would interview Tom Petty
The last concert I went to was The Foo Fighters
