Meet Liz, a 32-year-old Spotify playlist curator from Baltimore.
“I work in higher ed and sit at a computer all day long -- most of my playlists are different flavors of hype music to keep me awake and pumped for the day. Destiny's Child is an evergreen favorite (noted as far back as my 8th-grade memory book) and adding Beyonce to that playlist was a given.”
Who is your favorite artist?
This is a really tricky question so the simplest answer I can give is Carly Rae Jepsen. Her brand of pop music speaks deeply to my angsty gay ass. (am I allowed to say ass?)
Best concert you've ever been to?
My answer to this will always be the TRL Tour in 2001: 3LW, Dream, Jessica Simpson, City High, Eve, Nelly, & Destiny's Child
Do you play any instruments? If not is there one you would like to learn?
I played the saxophone in middle school and high school -- I want to pick that up again if only to learn to play the intro to Runaway With Me, and absolutely nothing else. I'm also a big fan of the recorder but since I get too enthusiastic about playing Disney songs on it when I'm drinking, all of mine have been hidden from me by my girlfriend.
What artist (dead or alive) had the biggest impact on your life?
If I thought back to my childhood/teenage years I might have a different answer, but the immediate response I have to this is Lizzo. Her music is amazing, obviously -- but I'm a fat chick, so seeing her out there doing her thing and loving herself and seeing other people love her too pumps me up on so many levels. “If you can love me, you can love yourself" is a quote of hers I think about a lot these days and I'm just really excited to see more of her.
