Meet Dave Joshua Teves, 24 years old from Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines.
“I was inspired by Starfunkel, a YouTube channel that features exotic vintage pop music from places such as Japan, Taiwan, and the Caribbean. I was so obsessed with the world music mixtapes that Starfunkel made that I had to make my own "mixtape" featuring the vintage sounds of my country, the Philippines.”
What is the soundtrack to your life?
I grew up listening to different types of music. In my childhood, I was exposed to a lot of 50's and 60's pop and doo wop. When I was in my teens, I listened to a lot of post-punk and indie pop. But all my life, I've been listening to The Beatles non-stop.
My Top 5 would probably be The Beatles, The Smiths, Frank Sinatra, Radiohead, and Kanye West.
If you had the chance to interview an artist, who would it be? (Dead or alive)
Paul McCartney, I think is a very interesting person to interview. He's been playing music since the 1950's. He's one of the best songwriters and musical geniuses out there. I'd love to hear his stories and lessons in life and music.
What is the best concert you have ever been to?
There's this artist in the Philippines that my best friend and I love. His name is Clem Castro. He led this band called Orange and Lemons that sound like if The Beatles and The Smiths had a baby. He held an intimate solo concert in one of the local bars in my place. My friend and I got to hang out with him backstage!
Do you have a favorite quote?
Do you play any instruments? If not, any you would love to learn?
I used to play the ukulele back in college. I'm currently trying to learn how to play the guitar.
Do you have a life slogan?
I don't know. Music is Life, I guess. :D
What is the most annoying song in the world?
There are only bad songs and good songs. A song only becomes annoying when it's repeated constantly. Right now, the most tedious songs are those jingles that I hear on TV.
What’s more important to you? Music; or Lyrics? Why?
It depends on the mood. There are days that I prefer to hear just the music. Then there are also moments when I don't really care about the music but I notice the lyrics are profound. I find it's better when both the music and lyrics are good.
