Beer Never Broke My Heart

Beer Never Broke My Heart

Meet Adam, 21 years old from Des Moines, IA
“I’ve had a strong passion for music for the entirety of my life thus far... ‘beer never broke my heart’ was originally created as a Luke Combs playlist as I’ve been one of his biggest fans since he released his “The Way She Rides” EP back in 2014. I started adding his songs and realized it was a perfect playlist for summertime. Whether you’re driving with the windows down, drinking Silver Bullets on a boat, or just shooting the bull with your buddies on a front porch, this playlist really is the perfect mix of modern and 90’s country music to set the scene for a damn good time.”

What is the soundtrack to your life?

I’d have to say either “Mama Tried” by Merle Haggard or “Somewhere Down In Texas” by Jason Boland and The Stragglers. Both are some of my all-time favorites.

Favorite artist?

There’s a lot of kings in this world, but only one of em wears a cowboy hat, so I’d have to say George Strait... of the newer era, either Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, or Tyler Childers.

If you had the chance to interview an artist, who would it be? (Dead or alive)

I’d say Jake Owen. Between his music, family life, baseball/wakeboarding history and the fact he’s a damn good golfer, I think we’d have a lot to drink about.

What is the best concert you have ever been to?

Most memorable would be Jason Aldean at Wells Fargo Arena after he released his “They Don’t Know” album in 2016. He had Thomas Rhett and A Thousand Horses opening for him. It was my senior year of high school and my buddies and I snuck a flask of Jim Beam in. I’ll never forget that show.

Do you have a favorite quote?

“May we get what we need, may we get what we want, but may we never get what we deserve.”

Do you play any instruments? If not, any you would love to learn?

I played drums for a rock band in high school for a bit before switching to lead singer. Since then I’ve been singing with my buddy Evan Doud (guitarist) in a little country acoustic duo called “Whiskey Bankshaft”. You can catch us at The Airliner in Iowa City and we’re looking to play at some venues in Des Moines and Ames in the near future, as well.

Do you have a life slogan?

God, Country, Family

What is the most annoying song in the world?

‘Blue Ain’t Your Color’ by Keith Urban. Really wish he’d make more music like his “Golden Road” album from 2002.

What’s more important to you? Music; or Lyrics? Why?

I guess I’m biased in saying lyrics as an amateur singer/songwriter. A lot of songs today just try and talk about stereotypical rural America when in reality they’re just talking without saying a damn thing. There are so many incredible songs that won’t receive the hype because they aren’t backed by insane guitar riffs or upbeat percussion. However, I really do appreciate when the instrumental accentuates the lyrics. They kind of go hand in hand at the end of the day.
