Meet Simon, a 29 year old Spotify playlist curator from Aalborg, Denmark.
“I initially looked for soothing acoustic tunes for evening chill. Now it has turned into a continuous search for new and upcoming artists with interesting lyrics and innovative rhythms mixed with established musicians.”
Describe your playlist. Perfect situation(s) for jamming it include:
It mostly consists of calming tunes suitable for evening chill. It is also full of artists who have a desire to express what is on their mind whether that be ups or downs, which I find extremely fascinating and captivating.
Who is your favorite artist?
It's a tie between Bastille and Childish Gambino.
What's your favorite show you've ever been to? Describe what made it special:
I grew up close to Skanderborg in Denmark, where the yearly festival "Smukfest" takes place. The main area of the festival is in a forest, which gives the entire show a truly magical atmosphere. Favorite concert was Carpark North back in 2015. Incredible show.
What song do you currently have on repeat?
Bastille - Doom days
Who is the first artist you remember connecting to growing up?
Is there any music that turns you off? If so, what genres / artists:
Country music and today's mainstream pop. There is a tendency among (some) contemporary pop artists to promote unethical and sexist behavior through their lyrics and music videos. This is worrisome (in my opinion) as these artists should act as responsible role models, especially to their young peers.
If you could interview one artist dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Donald Glover. His lyricism and sociopolitical insight is interesting. And he's a unique artist with qualities across the music and acting spectrum. A true inspiration.
What's more important to you: lyrics or production?
Lyrics. To me, this is where an artist's creativity and integrity can be explored and he/she may leave the listener in wonder, astonishment and a reflectious state of mind.
