Meet Yvette, a 25 year old Spotify playlist curator from Santa Barbara, California..
“I've always been inspired by good soundtracks. The way songs can invoke imagery or emotion is such a unique human experience - it's fascinating! And if you put songs together in a soundtrack or a playlist, it's like a jigsaw puzzle that clicks so satisfyingly in my head. They fit and paint a picture. ”
Tell me a little about yourself - Do you make music? Why do you love music?
Ever since I got my iPod nano when I was just a teenager, I started making playlists. I would make playlists for every mood and activity, and these playlists essentially made my very awkward middle school years somewhat tolerable. Without even really noticing it, I then developed a habit of making mini soundtracks to whatever I was experiencing in life and curating music became a hobby. Fast forward to 2019 - I'm well into my 20s, and now that I'm working full-time, my favorite part of my job is when I get to pop in my headphones and listen to music at my desk. I don't make music, but music will always be a language to me - it is my way of relating to the world and myself.
Why did you make this playlist?
For this playlist, the world that I wanted to re-create was the relaxing world of the video game, Animal Crossing. I spent countless summers in my childhood happily playing this game. So, I wanted to create a playlist that took me to this world - a blissful and relaxing place where I could just escape to. The idea for this playlist actually started when I first listened to "Blueless Bird" by Joni Fatora; the percussion at the latter half of the song reminded me so much of the original Animal Crossing soundtrack. I then slowly built this playlist with songs that have similar bps or instrumentation. Most importantly though, each song needed to be uniquely delightful and full of character just like the Animal Crossing world
