Meet Stephan, a music lover from Amsterdam.
My name is Stephan van Elten, I am a 31 years old from Amsterdam - the Netherlands where I live with my wife Sarissa.
I like to play squash, to go to the movies and I like to travel. My last trip was to New Orleans, loved it! We have seen a lot of live music performances.
What is the soundtrack to your life?
It's hard for me to choose a song as the soundtrack to my life. Most songs I like do not represent my own life. A great example of that is Willy Wonka, one of my favourite songs (by Russ, Paulina and Jafé). I love the song but eventhough I live in the Netherlands, known for good weed, I never use drugs.
What is the most annoying song in the world?
The most annoying song in the world would be Despacito by Luis Fonsi. Used to like it but once Dutch radio stations discovered the song and played it like twice an hour the song started to annoy me.
What’s more important to you? Music; or Lyrics? Why?
Music is more important to me than lyrics. Most of the emotion in songs are expressed non verbally in my opinion. Instrumental music can tell stories too.
I have a different favourite artists for every mood I am in. When I am in the mood for latin music, my favourite artist would be Alexander Abreu. When I am in the mood for Dutch urban club music my favourite artist would be Poke and when I feel like listening to some chilled R&B I listen to Jorja Smith. That is why my playlist contains so many different styles.
If you had the chance to interview an artist, who would it be? (Dead or alive)
If I had the chance to interview an artist it would be Bob Marley. His music has made such a big impact, he truely is a legend to me.
My last concert was in Havana - Cuba. My wife and I went to a concert of Havana D'Primera. It was lovely to dance salsa with local Cubans. To most of them dancing is a part of their lives and they put a lot of passion into their dance.
