Meet Peyton, a 23 year old Spotify playlist curator from Washington, DC.
“I wanted to make this playlist specifically to transport me back into the 2000s. For instance, when I was listening to the radio in my room singing all of the words to the newest Hannah Montana song, rehearsing the solo to a T-Pain feature, or dancing with my friends in the car after school...all of those best memories are relived when you have a great playlist.”
What music did you listen to growing up?
Pop and rap music from the 2000s.
What is your favorite quote?
“I’m five foot two, I want to dance with you, and I’m sophisticated fun.” - Missy Elliott
If you could interview any artist, dead or alive, who would you interview and why?
Missy Elliott because I’ve grown up listening to her music. She’s always had this different attitude when it came to how rappers and women needed to behave in the industry, and it always encouraged me to do what I want in work and to step out of the norm.
Who do you want to see live in concert before you die?
Missy Elliott! Because of the reasons listed before, but also because I could recite every word to her songs without any music. In college people used to play “One, Two Step” at parties so we could all sing Missy’s solo.
Who are your more recent favorite artists?
This spring I discovered Lizzo after her collaboration with Missy Elliott. I immediately admired her messages and amazing music that helped me get through a hard time.
Why do you like listening to playlists?
Playlists can take me back to a specific time in my life, whether it was a semester abroad, after a life changing breakup, a week away with friends, or memories of sitting at my favorite cafe. I love transporting back to one of my favorite times in my life with playlists.
What genre of music is your favorite to listen to?
Anything pop with an uplifting message that gets me excited to conquer my day.
