Meet Raine Vibert, a 27-year-old from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
“I've taken public transit all my life, and through all the crowded treks to train stations and bus corners, I ended up with a small collection of music that I found just plain more fun to walk to.”
What music did you grow up listening to as a young kid?
Fun fact, I was actually born to Dark Side of the Moon! I grew up with my dad’s tastes: a lot of English rock music--Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Psychedelic Furs, Supertramp, Flock of Seagulls--along with tons of older rap/hip-hop, like Tupac, Notorious B.I.G., early DMX, and Nas.
Name one of your favorite albums of all time?
Pink Soda by 自決 9 6, which makes me super nostalgic in a way I can't really explain.
What is your favorite quote?
"Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can." - Arthur Ashe
Name your top 3 favorite artists and why?
1) Aesop Rock - Lyrical genius set to killer beats. 2) Frightened Rabbit - ‘Floating in the Forth’ got me through some extremely rough patches, and Scott Hutchison’s passing just made its importance that much more surreal. 3) Vektroid - An extremely talented electronic musician and visual artist. Her work across aliases served as a huge personal gateway into the world of vaporwave, and eventually plunderphonics as a whole.
If you were a singer, what current living artist would you like to collaborate with?
Lin-Manuel Miranda. Would anyone on god's green earth NOT say, Lin-Manuel Miranda?
