10 Tricks and Tips for the Spotify Virgin

Spotify has changed the GAME when it comes to playlisting, streaming, and all around music sharing. We all know it, we all love it, but do we all know everything it has to offer? Here are some hidden features that you may be sleeping on.

  1. Collaborative Playlisting

Over riding passenger and being forced to listen to your friend’s outdated playlist for the one-thousandth time in LA traffic? With the Spotify collaborative playlist option, you can add songs of your own by having them right click on the playlist, select ‘collaborative playlist’ and share it with you.

  1. Spotify Folders

If you are OCD like I am and have a plethora of different playlists, it can be overwhelming or just aesthetically unpleasing. So instead you can organize them with Spotify Folders by creating folders for genre, mood, similar artists, etc. Just right-click on an existing playlist and select ‘create folder.’ Once you’ve done that you can drag playlists into the folder, rename, and reorganize.

  1. Don’t Get Embarrassed, Get Private

If people knew how much Phoebe Bridgers and Sufjan Stevens I listen to, they might start to get concerned for my emotional health. I SAY BEING SAD IS FUN! With that said, if you want to keep your ish to yourself, Spotify lets you “draw the curtains” with a private session. Learn the 3 easy steps here.

  1. Share Your Music Taste With Potential New Dates on Tinder

They say your music taste says a lot about you as a person. Like if you’re a Kanye fan “you're kinda mean. In a hot way,” according to Glamour. If you check the info section on your Tinder App and select ‘Anthem,’ you can link your favorite artists.

  1. It’s a Girl! Shazam and Spotify Made a Baby

You can actually link these two apps so that every time you search for a song on Shazam it will automatically save to a Spotify playlist. To do this all you have to do is go to the ‘My Shazap’ icon in the Shazam app and connect to your Spotify.

  1. Not Spotify? Not a Problem

If you want to listen to a song but it’s not on Spotify, the app lets you add an outside source. To do this all you need to do is head to ‘Settings,’ swipe down until you see ‘Locate Files’, and then from there just click ‘Add Source’ and you’re all set!

  1. Recover Your Deleted Playlists

Just like we hastily delete texts when we’re angry, sometimes playlists remind us of things we don’t want to think about. But what happens when we want them back?

To recover playlists just log onto your computer, click 'account', 'recover playlists' and then press 'restore'.

  1. Search Hacks

Spotify has a fancy schmancy advanced search guide that lets you search music in ways outside of the artist, album, or song name. Check it out here.

  1. Silence Is Not Always Golden

Get rid of the silent gaps between songs, so the music never stops!

  1. Improve Spotify Sound Quality

You can change the quality of your sound by going into settings, going to ‘Your Library,’ and selecting the settings icon in the top-right corner. Just swipe down until you find the ‘Music Quality’ option. From there you are given choices like ‘automatic quality,’ ‘normal quality,’ ‘high quality,’ and ‘extreme quality.’
